Fångarnas hungerstrejk i Kalifornien fortgår

Hungerstrejken i Kalifornien i protest mot att somliga fångar förknippad med gäng på obestämd tid hålls inlåsta i trånga isoleringsceller 22,5 timmar om dygnet fortsätter. Strejken inleddes av 30 000 fångar, och fortfarande så här 11 dagar senare, hungerstrejkar 2300 fångar.

En advokat som representerar fångarna och motsätter sig isoleringspolicyn säger:

“They’ve committed a crime, and they are willing to accept punishment,” said Jules Lobel, a lawyer challenging the California system in federal court. “But this is so far out of the ordinary that they consider it a form of torture, and I think that’s correct.”
